Adjustments/ Manipulation
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to spinal vertebrae that are misaligned and not not moving in the normal way. The objective of the chiropractic treatment is to adjust and reduce the misalignment (also known as a Subluxation), which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.
The adjustment made by Dr. Moss may be done by his hands, a special table or an adjusting instrument and consists of a high velocity, short lever arm thrust applied to a vertebra, which is often accompanied by an audible release of gas (joint cavitation). The audible sound (click) is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, which releases joint pressure (cavitation). The sensation immediately after the adjustment is usually a relief of pressure, though minor discomfort has been reported (that usually lasts for only a short time duration) if the surrounding muscles are in spasm. There are times when Dr. Moss will apply ice or heat, or do electrical muscle stimulation prior to or after the spinal adjustment.
The healing of your body begins immediately after the adjustment.
